How your funds are stored

Learn how Taopilot's self-custodial wallet model works and what it means for your TAO and Bittensor assets.
Taopilot does not custody your funds
Taopilot is designed as a self-custodial wallet. Your funds are recorded on the Bittensor network and controlled by the wallet keys on your device. Taopilot does not hold user assets, operate pooled accounts for users, or take possession of your TAO.
Funds live onchain
Balances, transfers, staking activity, and related account records are maintained by the blockchain network. The app reads this public network data and helps you prepare and submit transactions, but the app is not the ledger where your funds are stored.
You control signing
Transactions require your wallet to sign them before they can be submitted. Always review addresses, amounts, validators, subnet information, fees, and lockups before confirming an action.
Recovery depends on your backup
Because Taopilot is self-custodial, Taopilot cannot recover your wallet if your device, private keys, seed phrase, or backup is lost. Keep your recovery material offline, private, and stored somewhere you can access when needed.
What Taopilot can and cannot do
- Taopilot can display public wallet and network data.
- Taopilot can help prepare transactions for your review.
- Taopilot cannot reverse a confirmed blockchain transaction.
- Taopilot cannot reset, retrieve, or recover your private keys or seed phrase.
- Taopilot cannot guarantee validator performance, staking rewards, or protocol outcomes.
